Press release on the investigation conducted by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan on a criminal case in connection with the mass riots committed in the Republic of Karakalpakstan

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Uzbekistan is conducting a preliminary investigation on a criminal case initiated under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with the mass riots committed in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
The investigation group of the Prosecutor General's Office is entrusted with the task of identifying all facts of the incidents that have occurred, conducting investigative actions impartially and in strict accordance with the law.
As part of the criminal case, 14 people were detained in accordance with Article 277 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
In particular, Dauletmurat Tadjimuratov and Azamat Turdanov are charged under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code. A measure of restraint in the form of detention was applied against them by a Court decision.
In the actions of Lolagul Kallykhanova the signs of crimes encroaching on public safety are established. She was involved as a suspect in the case and was detained in a procedural manner.
Ensuring the respect of honour and dignity of the persons participating in the case, the prevention of torture, violence and other cruel or degrading acts of honour and dignity of a person has been taken under special control.
Investigative actions are carried out with full provision of the rights of suspects and accused persons to defence. They are provided with all the conditions stipulated by law in places of detention. There are no complaints about the health and conditions of their detention.
