The Uzbek-Italian project on saffron cultivation was discussed

On May 19, 2020, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Rome organized
a video conference to discuss implementation of the investment project on cultivation and processing of saffron in the Bakhmal district of the Jizzakh region, as well as its further export to Italy.
The event was attended by the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Uzbek company “BMB Trade Group” Bekzod Mamatkulov and President of Italian company “Opera SRL” Paolo de Angelis.
Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Italy Otabek Akbarov noted that the project is one of the most significant on the agenda of bilateral trade and economic cooperation. Its implementation will allow to attract advanced Italian experience and technologies and develop strategic partnership in establishment of a cluster of medicinal plants in Uzbekistan.
During the videoconference, heads of two companies exchanged information on the joint efforts being made to implement the planned activities since the signing of the cooperation agreement.
They also discussed finance issues and steps related to the transportation of saffron bulbs, as well as import of modern technology and the preparation of the land.
As noted by Paolo De Angelis, the Italian side intends to create one of the largest international centers for the cultivation and processing of saffron in the Bakhmal district of Jizzakh region over the next 5 years.
Bekzod Mamatkulov appreciated the efforts of the Italian partner, the collaboration with which on this unique project was not suspended despite restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic in Italy and Uzbekistan.

At the end of the videoconference, the parties agreed to mobilize their capabilities to achieve their goals in project.
